E-commerce integration
Shopify
An authorized payment provider inside Shopify checkout.
Listed in Shopify's Payment Providers as an authorized alternative payment method. Customers complete checkout inside the Shopify-hosted flow, but auth and settlement run through Superior — giving merchants the AI fraud, automated chargeback rebuttal, and multi-acquirer routing the default checkout doesn't ship with.
What you get
Listed payment provider
Shopify merchants enable Superior from the Payment Providers screen. No theme changes, no checkout modifications — Superior appears as a payment option alongside the native ones.
PCI scope stays at SAQ A
Card data is collected inside the Shopify-hosted checkout and tokenized in our vault. Your storefront and theme never touch PAN data, so PCI scope stays at SAQ A.
Subscriptions
Native support for Shopify's Subscriptions API. Tokenized recurring charges process through Superior with account-updater coverage on reissued cards.
Third-party-fee economics
Shopify charges a third-party-transaction fee on non-Shopify-Payments gateways (0.5%–2% by plan). For most mid-volume merchants the savings on chargebacks, fraud add-ons, and gateway features more than offset the surcharge — we'll model your specific numbers before you switch.
How it works
From install to live traffic on Shopify.
No middleware to maintain, no PCI-scoped infrastructure to host. The flow below is the same whether you're a small business or processing nine figures a year.
- 1
Enable Superior in Shopify
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Payments → Add payment methods. Select Superior Payments from the third-party providers list and enter your API credentials.
- 2
Customers check out as usual
Shopify's hosted checkout renders normally; Superior shows up as a payment option. Card data is collected inside Shopify's PCI environment and tokenized into our vault.
- 3
AI fraud + auth routing
Every transaction routes through Superior AI scoring and our multi-acquirer cascade — lifting approval rates and catching the fraud patterns the default checkout doesn't.
- 4
Subscriptions & post-purchase
Shopify Subscriptions, recurring drafts, refunds, and post-purchase upsells all process through Superior. Webhooks keep your Shopify order status in sync.
Who runs it
Where Shopify merchants get the most lift.
Three merchant profiles where this integration consistently pays back in the first quarter.
Shopify Plus merchants with custom fraud needs
Default Shopify Payments fraud screening isn't enough at scale. Superior AI scores every transaction in-line and supports custom rules tuned to your category.
Subscription / replenishment brands
Recurring renewals are where Shopify's default checkout leaves the most money on the table. Network tokens + account updater + multi-acquirer routing through Superior typically lift renewal approval 3–5 points.
High-risk verticals
Categories where Shopify Payments declines underwriting — supplements, CBD-adjacent, certain regulated goods — can run on Superior through Shopify's third-party-provider path.
Better with Superior
Why Shopify merchants choose the full stack.
Shopify merchants who switch to Superior consistently cite three Superior products as the reason: AI fraud detection (catches CNP fraud Shopify Payments misses), automated chargeback rebuttal (Shopify won't fight friendly-fraud disputes for you), and multi-acquirer smart routing (lifts auth rates 1–3 points). Subscription stores also lean heavily on network token enrollment.
Superior AI fraud detection
Proprietary LLM scores every authorization in real time — catches CNP fraud and friendly-fraud patterns before they hit the chargeback line. Included on every Superior account.
How Superior AI worksAutomated chargeback rebuttal
Auto-builds evidence packages with shipping records, AVS, CVV, 3DS data, and submits them on your behalf. No per-win fee, no separate chargeback vendor.

Frequently asked
Common questions from merchants evaluating this integration.
What about Shopify's third-party transaction fee?
Shopify charges 0.5%–2% (depending on your plan) on transactions that don't run through Shopify Payments. For most merchants this is offset by lower chargeback rates, no per-transaction fraud add-on fees, and better auth rates — we'll model your numbers before you switch.
Does this work with Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay?
Yes. Shopify's wallet flows route to whichever payment provider you've enabled. With Superior selected, wallet authorizations process through our gateway with full AI scoring.
Subscriptions specifically?
Native Shopify Subscriptions API support. Tokenized customer cards renew through Superior; failed renewals retry through account-updater coverage.
Multi-store / multi-region?
Each Shopify store can connect to its own Superior MID, or share a MID with consolidated reporting. Shopify Plus multi-currency is supported.
Other integrations to consider
Merchants often run more than one. Same Superior account, same vault, same merchant portal.

Why Authorization Rates Vary by Gateway — and How to Lift Yours
Two gateways routing the same card can produce different approve/decline outcomes. The gap is routinely 4–8 percentage points of auth rate — which is revenue. Here's what actually moves the number, and what merchants can do.

Multi-Acquirer Smart Routing: The Gateway Feature That Actually Moves Approval Rates
Most gateways send every transaction to a single acquirer. Multi-acquirer smart routing — retry a soft decline on a different upstream path — adds 1–3 points of approval for typical merchants, more for cross-border and subscription. Here's how it works.
